Francorchamps – Cape Coral – Daytona: This afternoon, the Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, based Mühlner Motorsport Team participated in the official qualifying for the Rolex 24h of Daytona. On a bright and sunny Daytona International Speedway, Peter Ludwig, who was behind the wheel during this session, qualified the Porsche in 21st position for the race, that will start this Saturday at 15.30 local time.
At the end of this qualifying session, the Mühlner Porsche had qualified as 22nd. But after being checked by the stewards, car number 67 from another Porsche team has been disqualified and so Car #18 moves up one place to 21st position on the grid.
Peter quotes: 'This qualifying is quite disappointing for me but I admit, I was thinking too conservative, I was constantly thinking to keep the car clean and in a good condition for the race in two days.' 'However in a 24h race, a good position on the starting grid is not the most important thing, since it doesn't decide the race.'
Team manager Bernhard Mühlner adds to this: 'We only worked for the race not for the qualifying.' He shares Peter's opinion by saying: 'A 24h race cannot be won in the first stint, so from here we are already looking forward to the actual race.'
Obviously 24 hours is a long time and anything can happen, no matter which position on the starting grid. Right now the car is in perfect shape and the drivers as well as the whole team are ready to give it all again.
