Francorchamps / London / Peking. The Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium based Mühlner Motorsport Team will run two current specification Porsche 911 GT3 Rs in the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship.
Renate-Carola and Bernhard Mühlners' successful team will run two of their own cars on behalf of SRO (Stephane Ratel Organisation) entered as „SRO CHINA GT1 TEAM".
"Since the confirmation of the contract, our preparations have been running at full speed. We are working under high pressure to get the project up and running – we have an awful lot to do but we will be ready for the start of the season" confirmed team manager Bernhard Mühlner.
The newest version of the Porsche 911 GT3 R has over 500ps and has, amongst other updates, also received a paddle shift upgrade. This brings the car up to the same technical standard as the other eight makes which will be running in the FIA GT1 World Championship.
The first of the two driver pairings is almost settled – Frenchman Mike Parisy will most probably be joined by the Brazilian former formula 1 driver Antonio Pizzonia in sharing the cockpit of the first Porsche to be run by Mühlner for the SRO CHINA GT1 TEAM. The first driver for the sister car is also settled in the form of Chinese driver Ren Wei.
"In the last decades we have raced almost all over the world but taking part in a World Championship definitely writes a new chapter in our team history. We will bring all our experience to bear in order to do a perfect job four our Chinese partners and our drivers" summarized team boss Renate-Carola Mühlner.
The 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship consists of 10 races. The season begins on the Easter weekend at the French circuit Nogaro. In addition to European races, there is a heavy bias towards the Asian market with two races in China and the season finale being held in New Delhi, India on December 2nd.
