Francorchamps - Dubai: The Spa Francorchamps, Belgium based Mühlner Motorsport Team took part in the 24 hour race in Dubai with drivers: Mark J. Thomas, Henri Moser, Jerome Thiry, Armand Fumal and Gilles Vannelet.
From the beginning everything went well, in qualifying as well as in the race. Early in the race the Mühlner Porsche Cup S drove in the top five and fought for a top result.
After one third of the race, the problems started: Armand Fumal had a collision and the doorstep needed to be repaired so the door could be opened and closed again. Shortly after a relay fell out of its support and that caused illogical electronical problems, this probably happened because of the accident earlier.
After this incident the Mühlner Porsche Cup S unfortunately tumbled out of the top ten. But it would get worse, as suddenly without any immediate cause, the gearbox broke down and had to be replaced. All the hope for a top result was now gone.
Mark J. Thomas had a small collision as well, and so the rim and some other parts of the suspension needed to be changed. The same happened to Henri Moser in the following stint, at exactly the same place on the car (rear left) but this time the clash was even heavier than before. So again the car was parked in the garage to be repaired.
In the last part of the race all the Mühlner Motorsport drivers had the fastest lap times from the whole field but the car eventually finished in 40th position.
"It was absolutely the right decision to enter the race with the Cup S. With just minor fuel consumption and some other advantages, the Cup S could have been the best Porsche in the race. But because off the gearbox problem, which is not analysed yet and the collisions, the chances for a good result had been destroyed. But now we're looking forward to our 35th 24h race in Daytona at the end of this month", concluded Bernhard Mühlner after the race.
